Booowooo, I can't grind anymore
This thread is dedicated to the people who love killing the same Fluorescent Frog 78 times a day in the hope it will drop the Amazing Hilt Of Uberness, which is 1 of the 34 items they'd like to have to build the perfect Uberman.
The forum is speaking with one voice: go play Everquest 2.
Arenanet pointed out that this game had no grind, only fun and competitive PvP and a solid (even though not huge) PvE. They worked on it and now we can finally say they kept their promise.
You can now get back to your beloved frog farming.

Yes, people have started complaining about the zero grind. I love it! Some dwarf beer for all who do too!

Yeah, people like grinding because obviously superior runes don't make a difference....

Superior runes are still hard to get, but hey, they're Uber. I can live with that...makes sense.

The problem here is that removing farm spots does NOT reduce grind. As a matter of fact, it makes it exponentially worse. Believe it or not, farming typically reduces grind! Say you want to unlock (buying runes does nothing) some superior runes right? Previously you would go farm in one of the many places listed on in the 'rebalances' untill you got what you were looking for. What do you do now, run through every zone in the game killing everything you see and come out with maybe 2 superior runes total? You'll notice I put 'rebalances' in quotes, this is because some of the 'fixed' locations are now so difficult one would have trouble with a full group of lvl 20's.

Hm, I think there is a definate appeal to grinding and an excitement that comes with finding good items as well as with leveling. Perhaps those that have done this a lot already would love the patch but it sounds to me like finding items would now be not as exciting as it had been in the past. On the plus, I can now sell my runes and other items without fear of losing a lot of cash.
add: I dont know whether or not I'd like EQ2 anyways, but I refuse to pay monthly fees for any game which is 1/2 of the reason I picked up Guild Wars. I'm not complaining agaisnt the game in any way, I'm loving the game so far.

Maybe you are right, but I acted out of enthusiasm after the last patch, and if u look at the number of threads in the last minutes, I was not the only one at all.

You can live with the fact that someone who spends time grinding gets better stuff then you therefore immediately making you a loser?

Your original quote says different. Figure out what competitive PVP is.

There is a limit to that. They dramatically reduced the grinding, no one said they totally eliminated it.

To beat the game requires very little grind...
But if you think there is no grind involved in becoming truly competative in PvP, I've got a great beach house in Kentucky I'd like to sell you... right by the ocean I swear.

How did they dramatically reduce the grinding? By lowering drop rates so that now you have even less chance of getting the things you need? "redistrubution" is plain stupid. PVP players don't want to play PVE, at least with farming back in riverside, PVP characters customized their build for one purpose and had minimal effect by PVE. Was it boring? Sure. But did they get runes faster so they could PVP more? Oh yes. And what's more important ultimately? PVP or being able to see the seven colours of the rainbow? PVP.
When you can tell me how to go through the whole game from pre-searing to hell's precipe and gain 90% of the superior runes, you can start saying they reduced grinding. If drop rates were higher, people wouldn't need to find a farming spot. Problem is, drop rates AREN'T high. At ALL. Which is why farming is born.

For example, by changing the way you get Elite Skills. I kept friggin Obhrit Barkwood alive for an eternity, first time henchies killed him, second time I was disconnected for no apparent reason, third time I finally got Defy Pain, which, curiously, was not even shown under his HP bar...I had to figure out when he used it (basically when his hp raised suddenly) and spam SoC. There are now minor glitches for some of the bosses (basically when the cutscene starts automatically after killing the boss) that will obviously be fixed. It's a sort of awkward move not to think about this BEFORE the patch, but I'm not crying out loud because of that. I call this "dramatically reducing the grind", and in case you didn't notice, 90% of people right now are talking about that.
Are you happy about one single thing in your life (or in your net-gaming life at least)? 99% of your posts are negative or acid. No offense meant, just sincere wonder...

This is, in my opinion, the biggest issue, and Anet is doing NOTHING to tackle it, except basically making the farmers a dev protected monopoly. THEY have good stuff now, and by making it virtually impossible to do it yourself anymore, they will be the ONLY ones who have good stuff now.
I have three characters, have been playing pretty solidly for about three weeks, say 2 - 3 hours a day weekdays and 5 - 6 hours in the weekends. That's quite a few hours.
I've had a grand total of 4 rare weapons drop for me, three of which were hammers and one of which was a gold weapon with nothing on it. (Err okay?)
Now they're lowering drop rates even more, apparently? So if you want to get a cool weapon, how are they REDUCING grinding? I have to kill even more mobs now in the hopes of EVER finding anything cool.
I have one character with a rare weapon, and I bought that from someone in Lion's Arch (actually for a pretty decent price, 3K or so, the guy wasn't ripping me off). I've NEVER found anything cool yet. My e/mo 20 has a blue artifact because I've yet to find a cool purple or gold one.
Hey, if the game is ENTIRELY about PvP, that's fine, but then don't try to market is as also being a good PvE environment. I don't get much joy out of PvP, so I simply don't play it. I don't begrudge any PvP'ers any fun, but why does it continuously have to come at the expense of the PvE people? I'm in a guild of seven guys, all of whom play PvE, nobody really likes PvP. How is this update great for us?
I guess the next thing is simply a weapon salesman who sells whatever kind of weapon you want?
My whole point is that it is FUN to find something. It isn't fun to BUY something. My Major Vigor rune was my prized possession, and I was debating on which character to use it. Now I can simply buy four. Woot?
If they want to reduce farming, and reduce grinding, they need to UP THE DROP RATE. So that when I do Galrath's Villainy, I actually FIND something on the way there, besides 7880000000000000000000000000 bones and one 6-18 axe.... :|
